Connection to Sybase fails (11178 previews)
Connection to Sybase fails Posted in 22th, 12/2005 08:46 by stephan.ott.ext
Hi,
just DLed and installed DBManager to test if we should purchase it.
But I can't connect to the Server. When trying to connect following error is dislayed:

ct_connect failed
GetConnection failed
Open Client Message Error 3:ct_connect(): directory service layer: internal directory control layer error: Requested server name not found.

A little data for you:
DBManager Professional Version 3.2.1
Networktopology: not allowed to tell
But you can trust that Hostname and Port is correctly entered.
Userid: sa (with correct password)

I tried to connect to 2 servers, none of them worked.

I'm out of wisdom.
Any ideas why I cannot connect ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

In order to help you with the problem a little bit of information is required:

- Database Server Version
- Windows Version (and SP's if any installed)
- Did you install the Client Libraries to connect to the server on the Workstation where DBManager is installed?
- If possible please insert the information used in Server Manager to connect to the server

See that DBManager only supports the ASE servers 11.9 and 12.5 (there are some issues with 12.5.3).

Best Regards,

Sure, information is possible.
Databe Server Version: ASE 12.5
WindowsVersion: WinXP SP2
Libraries: Not sure, aren't they included in the setup ?
SM-entered Info:

Parameters:
ServerName: SATSMARTQ
ServerGroup: DefaultGroup
Hostname: IP of the Server
Port: DB-Port on Server
Userid: sa
Password: hehe, surely the correct one

Options:
Auto connect enabled
SSL enabled
Version: 12.5.0

That's it.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi,

To connect to Sybase servers you need to install the Client Library which is installed with Sybase Installation setup. This cannot be distributed with DBManager as it is a commercial product.
If you are using Sybase 12.5.3 you may need to fill the Server Manager=>Options version with 12.0.0. We have experienced some problems with this version.
We will start testing new Sybase versions very soon and eventual problems will be fixed, if there is any, for the next release of DBManager.

Ok, I now installed the Client Library and added the path to the PATH-variable.

But no change, connection still fails with the same errormesg.
Change of Version-entry from 12.5.0 to 12.0.0 also had no effect.

Any more ideas ?

Hi,

DBManager for Sybase use Client Library, on dsedit tool add
Server Object and use:

protocol NLWNSCK
network address host,port (ex.xpdevel,5000)

On InterfaceDriver dialog in this example we have:

ServerAttributesValues
XPDEVELServer Entry Version1
 Server NameXPDEVEL
 Server ServiceSQL Server
 Server Status4 Unknown
 Server Addressxpdevel,5000

And Its works

That was the first thing I did
I'm currently connecting to the DB using the Sybase Central Java Edition, but would prefer using your Manager. If it would work...
The servers are entered in DsEdit. But I still cannot connect using your Manager. The error must be somewhere else; but I can't figure out where.

Any more ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We reproduced the problem and you sure have a problem in the Server Manager parameters. What we found is that you need to use the SERVERNAME created with dsedit in the DBManager Server Manager (hostname field) instead of the Server Ip Address.
This is because the Client Interface for Sybase uses the Server Name, where the TCP/IP Ip Address/Port are configured already.

Hope that helps,
